De Akari-lampen zijn handgemaakt van doorschijnend washi-papier dat is gemaakt van de binnenbast van de moerbeiboom. De ontwerper heeft het licht van Akari vergeleken met zonlicht dat door traditionele papieren deuren wordt gefilterd; de lichtsculpturen creëren een warme gloed en een aangename sfeer.
