L'applique da parete Ball è progettata con una cerniera girevole e un cavo di collegamento regolabile, che consente un facile spostamento del paralume senza riaggiustarlo sulla parete. Nel 1952, una serie di lampade a sospensione svedesi furono introdotte nel mercato americano e George Nelson ne rimase così colpito da volerne una per il suo ufficio. Il loro prezzo elevato gli ha impedito di acquistarne uno, ma lo ha anche ispirato a progettarne uno proprio. Il risultato è stato una serie di lampade dalle forme elementari e sferiche come una mela arrotondata, un sigaro allungato e una pera ben fatta, tra gli altri.
