Die Ball-Wandleuchte ist mit einem Drehscharnier und einem verstellbaren Steckkabel ausgestattet, was eine einfache Bewegung des Lampenschirms ermöglicht, ohne ihn an der Wand neu auszurichten. Im Jahr 1952 wurde eine Reihe schwedischer Hängelampen auf dem amerikanischen Markt eingeführt, und George Nelson war so beeindruckt, dass er sich eine für sein Büro wünschte. Der hohe Preis hinderte ihn daran, eines zu kaufen, inspirierte ihn aber auch dazu, ein eigenes zu entwerfen. Das Ergebnis war eine Reihe von Lampen mit elementaren, kugelförmigen Formen, wie unter anderem ein runder Apfel, eine längliche Zigarre und eine formschöne Birne.
